Georgia has snow, but it’s usually mixed with ice, so when snow is predicted we stay home. Snow in Georgia brings a holiday feel to the area because we get an unexpected play day at home. West Virginians don’t have that luxury I’m learning and snow is, therefore, not quite so fun. There are a few things I learned my first winter here that I will post as a reminder in my kitchen this winter:

  1. Snow on the bottom of boots turns the linoleum in the kitchen into an ice arena. Take your boots off before entering.
  2. Just because the road looks white, doesn’t mean you can stay home (especially if it’s Sunday morning).
  3. No need to run to the window each morning because it sounds like the sky is falling — it’s just the snow plow.
  4. When your vehicle starts to slide, take your foot off the brake, steer toward one of the corners of the car you’re about to hit, pray (and try not to shut your eyes).
  5. Go to the mountains to sled, tube and walk!!
